N E T W O R K : : : :A U D I O : : : :E V E N T S The following events are part of an ongoing investigation into network base audio and video streaming, manipulation and feedback loops. The internet provided quite a fertile environment for audio / video manipulations due to the multitude of various environmental factors that effect the content. These include codec degradation, network packet loss, encoding delay's and routing latency's. These experiments include a
collaboration with ping fm as part of the fusion network event
that took place between the 3 nodes of Weimar Germany, Sydney Australia,
and Los Angeles USA. The recombinant event involved the manipulation of
both sonic and visual material in network feedback loops. More information
regarding this annual event is available here <click here to download the full poster / project info as a pdf 956KB> Transient forms an ongoing series of network audio and or visual events organised by Times Up as part of the closing the loop umbrella of research activities and events. The event consists of a
collection of nodes in a loop. Each node is a small station with sound
and/or video capabilities and streaming capabilities. Each node has a
predecessor and a follower in the loop. The node takes in a stream from
their predecessor, manipulates it in some way, then encodes again, passing
it on. The expression "suck-spit" has been coined. The following
node takes this stream and does the same thing. The sound stream thus
travels from node to node until it arrives back at the "first"
node, where it is again manipulated. The last event held was dust on the 29th May 2001 A complete description of the events and other related projects/ research is available here
